The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of the Lagos State Chapter, has charged the State House of Assembly to constitute a panel that will assess the amount the state government spends on COVID-19.
It was expedient to demand for this, as the party claims to have found out that the amount stated to be used for taking care of each patient is overwhelming.
In a recent declaration by the Commissioner for Health in Lagos state, Akin Abayomi, he stated that the Lagos state government spends about One Million Naira daily on the tratement of COVID-19 patients across the state, that is in acute cases.
The Peoples Democratic Party made this urgent call on Sunday, the 25th of July, in a statement issued and signed by Taofik Gani, the spokesperson to the party. It charged the house led by honourable Mudashiru Obasa to prove that it is independent and to assess the claims.
The party made the call on Sunday, in a statement issued and signed by its spokesperson, Taofik Gani.
It charged the Mudashiru Obasa-led house to show that it is independent and probe the claims.
The Party said it is expedient for the house to bring about the probe, in order to clear the air, that it is evident that the state government is exploiting the pandemic to make money into private purses.
PDP further pointed out that the Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello, who is also an All Progressives Congress (APC) member, had alleged the same claim against some states in the country.
“The House of Assembly must show independence now and probe the claims. This is important to disabuse the people’s mind that the LASG is making money into private purses out of the pandemic. Especially as even an APC governor of Kogi State has alleged such against some states,” the party said.
While expressing the view that the amount claimed, which was depicted as “incredible figures”, the party is capable of increasing the already created doubts that the state government is not honest about the facts that the pandemic has been merchandised.
“The PDP thus calls on the LAHA to activate a committee of the whole House to look into the accounts relating to the Covid-19 and indeed similar supposed emergency reliefs, Trust funds, interventions, etc,” the party added.
