Report tells that at least 10 people were reportedly wounded as a result of exchange of gunshots that occured between the camps of All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Governor Godwin Obaseki, and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, the main opponent.
Also, it was reported that at a location near the Palace of Oba Ewuare 11, the Oba of Benin, there was a severe clash. Campaign Billboards, Exotic cars and many other valuables were destroyed in the act.
In an interrogation with Oba Ewuare, he promised to call upon his chiefs to pray to the gods for a peaceful election because the tension of the election was much, and it would require the involvement of the gods.
It was collected that, the clash was triggered when Governor Godwin Obaseki, the governorship aspirant of the People’s Democratic Party, led the chieftains of the Party on a courtesy visit to the Oba.
By the time they all got there, thugs and supporters of both parties were already gathered at the entrance of the King’s palace. They brought with them dangerous weapons for battle, including broken bottles and guns.
When the group drove into the Palace, a group of people in the crowd began to jeer Obaseki. Their activity led to a tension rise. This stirred up the anger of supporting members, and in turn a clash between both parties. The clash was not quickly controlled, so it escalated into the streets, and caused injuries to a minimum of ten people. It took the intervention of armed law enforcement agents to bring conditions back into normalcy.
